A period occurs when a woman's vaginal bleeds for a few days throughout her menstrual cycle. Most women's periods last about 28 days, although it's usual for them to go longer or shorter, ranging from day 21 to day 40 of their menstrual cycle. Your period might last anywhere from three to eight days, although it normally lasts approximately five. The first two days are when the bleeding is the most intense. The blood will be red when your menstruation is at its thickest. It can be pink, brown, or black on brighter days. During your period, you'll lose 30 to 72ml (5 to 12 tablespoons) of blood, though some women bleed more heavily. Periods typically begin around the age of twelve, though some girls may begin earlier or later. In most cases, a delay in the onset of periods isn't a cause for concern. By the age of 16 to 18, the majority of girls will have regular periods. Sanitary pads are padded strips with a sticky side that you stick to your underwear to keep them in place. The pad has an absorbent substance on one side that soaks up the blood. Pads come in a variety of sizes, so you may find one that fits your period, no matter how heavy or light it is. Pantyliners are a form of sanitary pad that is smaller and thinner and can be worn on days when your period is very light.
