Introduction of Slow-K 600mg Tablet 50s

Slow-K belongs to the class of drugs known as potassium supplements. Slow-K is a potassium supplement used to treat or prevent low potassium levels in the body. Potassium is slowly released from Slow-K tablets, which are modified release tablets. During treatment with this medication, your doctor will want to monitor your blood potassium levels.

Take special care before you take Slow-K tell your doctor if you:

  • Have had an ostomy (an operation to remove part of your bowels)
  • Suffer from heart disease (which may cause chest pain, shortness of breath or ankle swelling) 
  • Suffer from kidney problems or have ever had a stomach ulcer.

How To Use Slow-K 600mg Tablet 50s

This medicine is for oral use only. Swallow this medication as a whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take this medication at a fixed time each day if it is indicated for everyday use.

The active ingredient in this medicine is potassium chloride. The other ingredients are cetostearyl alcohol, gelatin, magnesium stearate, acacia, titanium dioxide (E171), talc, sucrose, red and yellow iron oxides (E172) and carnauba wax.

How To Store Slow-K 600mg Tablet 50s

Do not store above 30°C. Keep the tablet container tightly closed in order to protect from moisture.

Side Effects

As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.
Side Effects
Apart from the list of Slow K uses, there could be certain side-effects associated with the usage of the medication. Please refer to the list below:-
  1. Hypersensitivity
  2. Hyperkalemia
  3. Nausea
  4. Vomiting
  5. Abdominal pain

While some these symptoms are more common, there are a few rare symptoms that could also occur. If you are feeling any other symptoms (whether it is mentioned in the above list or not), please consult with a doctor immediately. Please, consult with a doctor if you are having rashes or blurry visions. Report if you experience any other symptoms as the above list may not be exhaustive. These symptoms become more prominent as when one is undergoing a long term therapy with this medication.


Hypersensitivity, Pain at injection site or phlebitis, Hyperkalemia, Periorbital, facial, and/or laryngeal oedema, Coughing, sneezing, and/or breathing difficulty.

Drug/Food Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have taken any of the following medicines as they may interfere with Slow-K: 

  • Diuretics (“water tablets”) for water retention or high blood pressure (if you are taking potassium sparing diuretics, stop taking Slow-K, see the section ‘Do not take Slow-K’) 
  • ACE inhibitors or beta-blockers for high blood pressure or heart problems such as captopril or atenolol 
  • Angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists for treatment of high blood pressure, kidney damage due to diabetes and congestive heart failure  such as losartan or valsartan 
  • Ciclosporin for transplants, rheumatic disease or skin complaints non steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) for pain relief or rheumatism such as aspirin or naproxen 
  • Heparin used to thin the blood 
  • Digoxin for an irregular heartbeat 
  • Anticholinergics for abdominal or stomach spasms or cramps such as atropine sulphate or hyoscine butylbromide.

Warning Precautions

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use it if packaging has been tampered with.
  • Do not use this product if you have hypersensitivity to the ingredients in it.
