It may take several weeks for this medication to begin to work, but it is critical to continue taking it on a regular basis in order to reap the benefits. Even if you are feeling fine, do not stop taking it until your doctor instructs you to do so. It is possible that you may have additional seizures or that your bipolar illness will worsen. Some of the most frequent adverse effects of this medication are headaches, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, diarrhoea, double vision, and weight gain, to name a few of the many. The majority of adverse effects subside after a few days, but if they persist or become bothersome, contact your doctor. There may be methods to avoid or reduce the severity of these consequences. Long-term therapy may result in bone weakening (osteoporosis), which increases your chances of fracturing a bone in the future. Please inform your healthcare provider if you have kidney or liver issues, meningitis or depression or suicidal thoughts before beginning treatment with this medication. In addition, inform your healthcare provider of any other medicines you are taking, since some of them may interact with, or be impacted by, this prescription. This includes contraceptive pills. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, your dosage may need to be modified. If this medication causes you to get sleepy or dizzy, you should avoid driving or riding a bicycle. It is possible that you may need regular blood tests to see how well you are reacting to this medication.
