This medicine is for oral use only. Swallow this medication as a whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take this medication at a fixed time each day if it is indicated for everyday use.
As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.
Besides the uses, people who are taking Exforge may also develop certain side effects, such as:
1. Headache
2. Influenza
3. Nasopharyngitis
4. Angioedema
5. Fatigue
6. Asthenia
7. Flushing
Some of these symptoms are more common than the others. If you are developing any of the stated side effects (whether listed or not), please talk to a doctor as soon as possible. You also need to refer to a doctor if some symptoms such as skin rash or blurred vision occur. This list may not be complete, therefore do inform if you are experiencing other symptoms. These symptoms become more visible with longer duration of intake.
Common side effects may include: Dizziness, Peripheral edema (swelling of the extremities), Flushing, Headache, Fatigue, Palpitations, Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nasal passages and throat)

Precautions
Before starting Exforge, please consult a doctor especially if you are having any of the listed problems. Contraindications:
· Allergy to Exforge or any of its contents.
· It is not advisable for children and babies. Please keep it away from their reach
· Hypersensitivity
Drug interactions with Exforge:
Interactions may differ individually. You are encouraged to ask your doctor about any possible interactions of this drug.
· Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs)
· ACE inhibitors
· Aliskiren
This list may be incomplete. Please mention all the drugs you are taking to the doctor before starting a new one. Please be alert of the following situations as well:
· Avoid excessive exposure to sun
· Avoid using it for a long term
· Alcohol may affect the effectiveness of this drug
Inform the doctor if you have other diseases. Do not stop taking the drug which has been prescribed by doctor.
Alcohol Warning (Not Advisable)
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip). Taking Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) with alcohol may worsen the side effects of Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) such as headache, dizziness and visual disturbance. Furthermore, amlodipine is metabolised in the liver and alcohol consumption leads to a risk of liver damage.
Pregnancy Warning (Not Safe)
Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits of using Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) among pregnant women outweigh the risks. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeeding Warning (Limited Data)
Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) is reported to be excreted into breast milk. However, the effect of the exposure towards the babies remains unknown. There is also stated that no side effects were reported with the exposure. Please consult your doctor for further details.
Driving Warning (Not Advisable)
Do not drive unless you are feeling well. Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) may cause side effects such as dizziness headache, tiredness or nausea, all of which could affect the ability to concentrate and drive.
Kidney Warning (Use With Care)
Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) is mostly excreted via urine. Thus, dose adjustment of Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver Warning (Use With Care)
The liver disease should use Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) with caution. It is extensively metabolised in the liver. Extensive use of Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) also increases the liver enzyme. Dose adjustment of Exforge 5/160mg Tablet 14s (strip) may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Quick Tips
Take Exforge 5/160mg Tablet at the same time regularly to help you to remember to take it.
Exforge 5/160mg Tablet may cause a rapid decrease in your condition, particularly when you start using this medication. To decrease the risk of feeling dizzy or passing out, if you have been sitting or laying down, rise carefully.
Regular blood tests will be conducted to monitor your urea, creatinine, and potassium levels
May cause dizziness and tiredness. Use Exforge 5/160mg Tablet with caution when driving or doing activities that require attention until you know it affects you
Avoid taking Exforge 5/160mg Tablet with anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen without first seeing your doctor.
Since Exforge 5/160mg Tablet causes ankle or foot edema, raise your legs when sitting to minimise edema. See your doctor if it doesn't improve.
Exforge 5/160mg Tablet has the potential to raise potassium levels in the blood. Potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods like bananas and broccoli should be avoided.
Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a baby or breastfeeding.
