Face mask explanation
Hi doctor. Can you explain to me why one feels dizzy till want to faint whenever wear mask after a certain period of time , like perhaps after few weeks and worn almost daily even for less than an hour? Does it indicate that the oxygen level is being reduced into our bloodstream besides the ear or sinus blocked, but will such makes one dizzy severely till feel like fainting? And will this lower our immune system and make one proned to infectious viruses beside COVID-19, and perhaps perhaps the possibility of making the condition critical? And will one’s health become worse when keep inhaling recycled air, and more carbon dioxide? As we keep talking, we also produce carbon dixoide dioxide and too again breath in the same air within the confined area of the mask? Is it the same as stagnant air ventilation? Will this be very bad for our organs like lung, heart and brain, and overall health? Thanks.

Greetings. Thank you for your questions.
Regarding your question about the dizziness after using mask for a long period of time, it might happen due to lack of oxygen due to resistance to breath through the mask. However, I won’t rule out the other possibilities that might cause dizziness such as:
Ear problem
Migraines
Side effect of medication
Alcohol intake
However, it is not directly related to immune system. Besides that, prolonged use of any face mask, including the N95 respirator, has not been shown to cause carbon dioxide toxicity or lack of adequate oxygen in healthy people.
Regarding stagnant air ventilation, this concept is used in an area such as room or building. It’s about the air flow inside and outside. Hence, this is not similar as the usage of mask.
