Indigestion is a common problem that can occur to anyone. Indigestion occurs when the food in the gastrointestinal system is not well digested. Indigestion can lead to symptoms such as heartburn, feeling bloated, feeling of fullness in the stomach, abdominal discomfort, belching, nausea, vomiting, and regurgitation. Indigestion can occur due to overeating or eating too fast, eating too much oily or greasy food, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, stress, and anxiety. Besides that, gastrointestinal tract problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer and helicobacter pylori infections and medications such as aspirin, steroids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and antibiotics can also cause indigestion. Indigestion that is harmful can be overcome by changing diet to a more healthy diet, avoiding alcohol and quit smoking. Indigestion could be a major problem if it is caused by medical conditions or gastrointestinal tract diseases. Hence, must be diagnosed and treated accordingly.
