Greetings! Thank you for your questions.
First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding emergency contraception. For your information, emergency contraceptive pills will prevent 95% of pregnancies if taken within the first 24 hours, decreasing to 58% if taken between 48 hours and 72 hours after unprotected sex. Although you have taken it later than the usual time, as long as it is taken within the first 72 hours, the effectiveness will still be there. You will need to take the second pill after 12 hours taking the first pill. You can also refer to the details on the packaging.
Generally, you should not take it more than once within one menstrual cycle. If POSTINOR is used more than once in a menstrual cycle, it is more likely to upset your menstrual cycle (period). POSTINOR does not work as well as regular methods of contraception.
Other than emergency pills, emergency contraceptive methods available in Malaysia if one does not desire to get pregnant after unprotected sex is IUCD (A device inserted into the woman’s private part). You may also opt for other contraceptive method for example using combined contraceptive pill and barrier method.
