Hello!
Thank you for your querry.

We understand that your mother has been experiencing hemorrhoids and you would like to know about the treatment options. We will try to help you out.

For your information, treatment of hemorrhoids consists of pharmacotherapy (medications), banding, sclerotherapy and surgery. The best treatment option for your mother can only be decided after examination by a doctor. We will give a brief description of each treatment option.

  1. Medication : Hemorrhoidal medications, stool softeners and topical creams are available on prescription to help relieve symptoms of hemorrhoids.
  2. Banding : This is usually done to treat internal hemorrhoids. A rubber band is placed at the bottom of the hemorrhoids, cutting off the blood supply and causing it to shrink.
  3. Sclerotherapy : This treatment involves injecting a sclerosant into the hemorrhoids.
  4. Surgery : Hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure that removes hemorrhoids.

Some at home tips for managing hemorrhoids :

  • Increase fibre and water intake to prevent constipation
  • Stay active with light exercises
  • Taking warm baths can help relieve the pain
  • Ice packs or salt added to warm water can help reduce the swelling
  • Pain medications such as paracetamol, ibuprofen and aspirin can help with the pain

Regarding the cost of the treatment, it varies between hospitals. We encourage you to speak to a doctor for the best treatment for your mother. You can reach out to our doctor for a private online consultation.

We hope that this answer has been helpful.
Thank you.
