Hi, thank you for the question. You are having tonsillitis as your tonsils are inflamed. Tonsils are located the side of the throat. There are 2 tonsils are they helps to clear infections. These tonsils are inflammed when the immune cells inside the tonsils are trying to fight off the infections. It is more common among children as tonsils is important to fight off the infections.
The infections can be due to virus or bacterial infections. Viral infection is more common than bacterial infection. While you are having tonsillitis, you may experience sore throat, painful swallowing, ear pain or fever. Earache can be due to the same infection as they are located in close proximity.
These symptoms normally last for 3-4 days. The dots on your tonsils can be due to tonsil stones, a white calcium deposits that is caused by infections, food or mucus. Tonsillitis itself is not contagious as it is a body response towards the infections. However, the infection can spread to other people.
Therefore, always try to avoid public places, use tissue while sneezing or coughing and wash hands frequently. Normally, you only need painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to relieve the pain and fever. You may need antibiotics if your doctor suspect bacterial tonsillitis. Drink plenty of water and take a good rest helps you to recover faster.
Sometime, you may get collection of pus in the tonsils that required minor procedure to drain the pus. Always seek help from healthcare providers when you have difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, severe sore throat and swelling in your mouth or throat. Have a good day and fast recover !!!
