About CoronaVac side effects? Pls help me I want to know TQ doctor

My dad always feels uncomfortable in his throat, does he have a dry cough? Since the second dose of coronaVac vaccine, the symptoms of his dry cough have been more obvious, but he hasn’t been coughing all the time. Sometimes he didn’t have a dry cough all day, and sometimes he coughed from time to time. Dad said he felt nasal water flowing back into his throat. He feel phlegm in his throat. I want to know if the side effect of coronaVac vaccine is cough? Except for a dry cough, my father is in good health and has no discomfort.

Hello, thank you for your enquiry.

For your information, cough is one of the common side effects for Covid vaccine. The other common side effects are:

  • Pain, redness and swelling over injection site
  • Fever
  • Sore throat, cough
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Muscles or joints pain
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Diarrhoea

These side effects usually will recover within a week after vaccination. If the symptoms does not subsided, it may be due to other cause, such as post-nasal drip, sinusitis, infection, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and others.

Therefore, if your father’s cough does not recover after 1 week or so, or if he develop other severe symptoms like shortness of breath or fainting, please do refer these to a doctor for a proper history taking, clinical examination and relevant investigations. Then only a final diagnosis can be made as well as a proper treatment plan can be done for your father.
