Any medical tests for stroke?
Are there medical/blood tests that can determine if a 85 yo woman has had a ministroke? If so what are these?
We can’t see any obvious signs but last Aug, the caregiver said there was a slight droop of her mouth. Thanks.

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us.
The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions due to the limited information provided by you. Click on this link (DoctorOnCall) for a private consultation with our doctors
Based on the above information, we understand your concerns regarding her condition. For your information, a stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds, or when there’s a blockage in the blood supply to the brain. The rupture or blockage prevents blood and oxygen from reaching the brain’s tissues.
The loss of blood flow to the brain damages tissues within the brain. Symptoms of a stroke show up in the body parts controlled by the damaged areas of the brain. Stroke symptoms can include:
- paralysis
- numbness or weakness in the arm, face, and leg, especially on one side of the body
- trouble speaking or understanding speech
- confusion
- slurring speech
- vision problems, such as trouble seeing in one or both eyes with vision blackened or blurred, or double vision
- trouble walking
- loss of balance or coordination
- dizziness
- severe, sudden headache with an unknown cause
It can be hard to assess how serious the stroke just by referring to the symptoms or looking. Thus, it is important to treat the stroke seriously and get them assessed by a doctor.
In order for us to provide you with an accurate choice of treatment and management, we need additional details to explore further into your current complaints. Therefore, we greatly suggest that you refer this to your nearest medical doctor for full examination with imaging studies.
